The orchidaceae are a very diverse family of non-woody flowering plants. They are often characterized by their distinctive and incredibly variable flowers, often with one large highly modified petal known as a labellum.The orchidaceae have very small seeds which allow them to be distributed in a huge variety of habitats, often on top of other trees or on rocks. They are found across the globe, but are most diverse in the tropics and places with a mediterranean climate.
