The Poaceae, more commonly known as the grasses, is a large family of flowering plants. The Poaceae grow with a hollow stem with leaves attached. New growth emerges from the base of the plant which allows grasses to be grazed without sustaining too much damage; this feature has allowed the Poaceae to be one of the most widely distributed plant families. They can be found throughout the world even on Antarctica.
