Begonia masoniana var. 'Boulder'

Originating from southern China and northern Vietnam, these rare beauties produce asymmetrical green leaves, entirely covered in tiny reddish hairs. This particular cultivar differs from the usual ‘Iron Cross’ Begonia, with its deep red, almost black, pattern prominently covering the veins on each leaf alongside the edges. The dramatic and intricate leaves of Begonia masoniana are a warning; they require warmth and high humidity at all times.

Watering

In S/S water when 20% of the top soil has dried out. In A/W allow top soil to dry out 50%. These plants require high humidity, but avoid misting directly on the leaves too much. Instead, keep the plant on/near a tray of pebbles with water.

Light requirements

Bright, indirect.

Feed

Use a house plant fertiliser every month between April - September.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years when roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining house plant potting mix, with added draining medium like perlite. Begonias grow best in slightly snug pots.

Pot size / height

See available sizes below. Please note that, due to their natural variability, specimens' height may be within 10-20% of the stated height below.
