Begonia ferox

As intriguing as it is eye-catching, the Begonia ferox is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after plants. New growth emerges pale and smooth, but as the leaf matures, it deepens to a dark green and produces little black spikes which cover the top of the leaf, while marking the underside with little holes where the spikes have protruded above. Despite its Latin naming of ‘fierce’, these tiny spikes are in fact very soft to touch, making it both a striking and tactile specimen.
