Espostoa guentheri

This tall, hairy, columnar cactus can reach 3 metres in height in its dry habitat near the equator in Peru. Grey-green stems have a dense covering of long, white hairs and gold coloured spines. Major specimens can produce thick bristly clumps of golden hairs (cephalia), from which bell-shaped, white flowers emerge.

Watering

Water when soil is 100% dry. Water lightly (if at all) during cold winter months. Aloes can be prone to rot if cold and wet at the same time.

Light requirements

Full sun.

Feed

If not repotting then you can use a well-balanced cactus feed every month from April - September.

Repotting

Repot this plant every two years to replenish the soil and to allow extra room for the roots to spread out. Use a well-draining and gritty cactus compost.
