Euphorbia handiensis

Endemic to the rocky soils of the volcanic valleys of the island Fuerteventura, Euphorbia handiensis grows in a cactus-like form with many spine covered arms, growing up to a metre tall at maturity. Its hard to reach habitat combined with its slow growth and difficulty in  propagation, have kept this little succulent rare. Emerging growth is bright green which becomes grey with age, while spines first appear red-brown before becoming pale.

Watering

Water when soil is dry 100%. Water lightly (if at all) during winter months.

Light requirements

Full sun.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March - November.

Repotting

It can stay in the same pot for a number of years as it is such a slow growing plant. If it does ever become too small for the pot it is in, repot into one size up and use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage such as perlite, pumice or grit.
