Euphorbia multifolia

Growing in abundance amongst the shrubs in the southern Karoo, this unusual succulent can be found on rocky slopes and steep cliffs, typically growing on sandstone or shale rocks. At the growing tip its thick stem emerges pale green, gradually aging to a purple brown with a distinct lattice pattern. Light spines pepper the surface of the trunk interjected with grey-blue leaves which end abruptly giving them a rectangular appearance. Its delicate foliage may shed during periods of drought.

Watering

In summer water thoroughly only when 100% of the soil has dried out. A/W allow soil to dry 100% - water sparingly. In spring gradually increase watering - depending on temperature and light exposure.

Light requirements

Full sun. Leaves will turn a nice purple colour with lots of light.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser 2-3 times a year.

Repotting

Repotting once every 2-3 years to replenish soil. Use a cactus compost with a good mix of perlite.
