This evergreen shrub is native to tropical and sub-tropical areas of South America, however its hardy nature allows for it to withstand light frost making it suitable from growing in the UK climate. Although the plant will need protection from freezing temperatures. Grey-green elliptical leaves have a white-felted underside, densely populating the slim brown-orange stems. The plant is able to reach heights of around 2.5 metres tall and spreading out to a similar width. Its eye-catching foliage has led to it being cultivated for its ornamental value, however its most distinct feature are the bright blooms which are followed by sweet edible fruit, known as pineapple guava.
