Howea (Kentia) forsteriana

Endemic to the humid and subtropical Lord Howe Island in Australia, Howea forsteriana is a fairly slow growing palm. In the wild it can reach heights of 10 metres tall and 6 metres wide, developing a slim woody stem with its fronds growing only at the top. The genus Howea, which only consists of two species both endemic to the island, is named after the island itself. The common name, Kentia, is named after the capital of the island.

Watering

In S/S water when 20% of the top soil has dried out. In A/W allow top soil to dry out 50%. Keep humidity high.

Light requirements

Bright, indirect.

Feed

Use a houseplant fertiliser once a month from April - October.

Repotting

Repot every two-three years to give the roots more space to grow and to replenish the soil. Use a well draining house plant compost with 20-30% added draining medium like perlite, grit or hydroleca.
