One of the most unusual looking plants in our collection, this one is surely for collectors. Found growing from South Namibia to Little Karoo and Eastern Cape in South Africa, this succulent shrub first emerges with slender stem-like tuberous roots which over time become swollen and twisted, with plump slender green leaves. In habitat its roots are buried underground but in cultivation it’s prized for its ‘caudex’ which is fully on display.

Repotting
This species can live in the same pot for several years. Repotting may only be necessary once every 2-3 years (or longer), once roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a very well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage medium such as perlite, pumice or grit.
