This magnificent cactus grows into wonderful contorted shapes that resemble puffs of smoke. It’s a dense chunky plant that is slow growing and easy going; to keep the growth nice and crested, pop it in the sunniest spot you have. The 'Strictum' cultivar has a more irregular shape within the crested growth and some specimens maintain a pinkish hue when kept in full sun.

Watering

Water when soil is dry 100%. Water lightly (if at all) during winter months.

Light requirements

Full sun.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March - November.

Repotting

It can stay in the same pot for a number of years as it is such a slow growing plant. If it does ever become too small for the pot it is in, repot into one size up and use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage such as perlite, pumice or grit.
