Philodendron melanochrysum

Another striking Aroid hailing from the warm, humid rainforest floors of Colombia, the Philodendron melanochrysum sits at the top of many plant collectors wish-lists. Starting life off small and understated, the Melanochrysum slowly grows into an elegant mass of long, velvety dark green foliage, and once it reaches maturity, gives off a shimmering black and gold iridescence when touched by sunlight. This Philodendron loves to climb and will reward you with bigger, more dramatic leaves if given a moss pole or support stick to wrap around.

Watering

In S/S water when 20% of the top soil has dried out. In A/W allow top soil to dry out 50%. A high humidity lover so mist often.

Light requirements

Bright, indirect.

Feed

Use a houseplant fertiliser every two months from April - October.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years when pot is full. Use a well draining house plant compost with added draining medium like perlite.
