Phyllanthus mirabilis

Native to Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, Phyllanthus mirabilis can usually be found growing on limestone ridges. This small deciduous shrub or tree grows slow, developing a stout trunk at the base in areas which are typically drier throughout the year. Its pinnate leaves vary from shades of green to copper or deep purple depending on the plant’s maturity, appearing on the branches in pairs and closing at night. The plant is deciduous, so it may lose its foliage for the winter months, and while dormant refrain from watering. Leaves will begin to grow back in spring.

Watering
