Stapelia hirsuta

Commonly known as ‘carrion plants’. Stapelia flowers are particularly hairy and leathery in texture, and produce a scent resembling that of rotting flesh. They are quite unattractive but truly spectacular. The foul odour and revolting (to some) appearance is to imitate carrion, and attract flies for pollination. Stapelia species are the true marmite of the plant world, you either love them or hate them.

Watering

In Summer water thoroughly only when 100% of the soil has dried out. A/W allow soil to dry 100% - water sparingly (every two months). Spring gradually increase watering - depending on temp and light exposure.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years using cactus and succulent compost.

Feed

Use a cactus feed from March - November every other time you water.
