Stephania erecta

A much loved favourite within the Conservatory Archives team, the Stephania erecta is (in our opinion) the sweetheart of the caudex world. The contrast between its large, rough, rock-like bulb and those delicate, dainty leaves that gracefully emerge gives it an endearing charm unlike any other. It will go dormant, usually around winter time, so just make sure to cut back on watering so it can rest and restore ahead of the next growing season.

Watering

In S/S water when 90% of the soil has dried out. During the winter months allow the soil to dry out 100% watering very little every 1-2 months if the plant has leaves. If the plant drops its leaves and enters a dormancy period, hold back on watering until new growth emerges. Do not water on the crown of the caudex.

Light requirements

Bright, full sun.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between the months of March - November.

Repotting

Repot every 3-4 years using a very free draining potting mix of cactus and succulent compost combined with pumice/perlite (ratio should be a minimum of 50/50).
