Tylecodon wallichii

Growing within the rocky and sandy slopes in areas of South Namibia and South Africa, Tylecodon wallichii is a sparsely branched shrublet. Its low growing stem is covered with masses of protuberant tubercles, first emerging a pale green which turns into a thicker and more woody stem with maturity. Bright green long fleshy leaves grow from the tips of branches during the winter months, before dying back for the dormant season of summer.

Watering

Water when 100% of the soil has dried out, during the active growing season between late summer through to early spring. Water sparingly during the cold winter months.

Light requirements

Full sun. Protect from harsh afternoon summer rays.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser 2-3 times a year.

Repotting

Repot once every 2-3 years if roots have outgrown the pot or to replenish soil. Use a well-draining cactus and succulent potting mix, with added drainage medium for a more sandy and gritty mix.
